Pilot Project 2024

Reflecting on Six Transformative Months

The pilot phase of welcHome 24 /Space a+Lu has officially come to a close, and what an incredible six months it has been! Hosting five talente artists, this phase tested our vision, explored creative possibilities, and provided invaluable insights into how the residency can grow. Thanks

to the inspiring contributions of the first brave artists of participants, the success of this pilot lays the groundwork for an exciting future.

Highlights of the Pilot Phase

The pilot brought together five diverse artists over six months, each with unique projects and practices. From workshops that sparked collaboration to the dynamics of living and working together, the experience was as

challenging as it was rewarding. Artists explored Hoi An’s rich cultural and natural environment, finding inspiration in its people, traditions, and landscapes.

Some key moments included:

  • Workshops and Artist Talks: These sessions created opportunities for learning, sharing, and exploring new techniques.

  • Group Dynamics: Living and creating together brought its challenges, but the result was a vibrant, supportive community.

  • Personal Growth: As a new manager, I faced and overcame challenges in balancing logistics, individual needs, and group harmony, which has strengthened my ability to guide this residency forward.

  • Open Studio: We held an Open Studio event in October 24, and I was both surprised and deeply touched by the number of visitors (expats and locals) who came to see the artists' work from this month. Another art residency from Hoi An also joined us, which led to exciting new connections and collaborations for the artists.

Artists’ statements:

Participants shared their thoughts on the experience:

Brigitta: I recharged my batteries with the sights, sounds, smells and flavours of Hoi An.

Karin: The abundance of colours, shape and tastes is an source ofinspiration in this generosity an at the same time it is the simplicity that attracts me.

Miranda: I made a completely transformation

Moa: What I take with me from this amazing residency time is not the outcome it is the whole transformative process which was full of emotions, learning and lots of beautiful memories.

Franziska: To take a step back and just breathe in order to find the SLOW FLOW GROW during the residency, was an essential experience.

Lu/Manager: In my new role as an artist residency manager, I’m embracing a "slow, flow, grow" approach. I'm proud to see the progress of the artists and the residency, and grateful for the positive feedback on how I support them.
